Client Numbers 2014-2015

Manna LogoEvery year volunteers go through the Manna Food Bank’s records and assemble statistics regarding the food bank. This annual profile tells us who uses the food bank in our community, and gives us some clues as to why. All data relating to individuals remains confidential.

Between April of 2014 and the end of March 2015, the Manna Food Bank provided food to 648 households in Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Muskoka Lakes, Huntsville, Georgian Bay and Lake of Bays.

More than half of households (54%) turned to the food bank three or fewer times per year. Only 6% of households use the food bank 10 or more times annually.

The large majority of individuals were adults, about 28% of them single individuals, 27% parents with children, 33% single parents with children and 13% couples with no children.

The primary source of income for about 30% of them is social assistance, a quarter are employed and another 7% report employment insurance as their primary source of income. The vast majority (70%) live in private rental housing.

Food bank use has climbed over time–the number of households that used the food bank in 2005-2006 was 485, and the percentage of clients from Gravenhurst has climbed steadily, from 8% in 2005 to 25% last year. But the remainder of statistics have been fairly consistent.
