Tuesday’s Fall Food Drive Volunteer Meeting Point Changed Due to Strike Action
Volunteers are being asked to meet at Bracebridge Fairgrounds at 5pm on Tuesday October 8 before setting out.
(Bracebridge, October 4, 2019) — Volunteers helping out with the Muskoka Oldtimers Fall Food Drive for Manna on Tuesday October 8 are being asked to move their rendez-vous point this year, to the Bracebridge Fairgrounds at 331 Fraserburg Road, at 5pm.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has provided notice that they will be starting a full strike across the province on Monday, October 7 and all schools in the TLDSB school board are scheduled to be closed.
The food drive organizers’ have had to find a new place for volunteers to meet beforehand as their permit to use the Monck Public School gym as a meeting point has been cancelled.
“Even if a strike is averted we will still meet at the Fairgrounds,” notes organizer Doug Kamachi.
Business as Usual for Food Drive
While the volunteer meeting place has changed, Kamachi notes that it’s business as usual for the food drive itself. Bracebridge residents are asked to gather non-perishable food items to donate to the Manna Food Bank and set them outside their doors by 5:00 pm. Scores of Bracebridge school kids will be running door-to-door that evening collecting the food and financial donations, which will be delivered to the Food Bank.
