Manna Food Bank launches Easter Envelope Campaign

Bracebridge, March 24, 2016 – If you leaf through the thick stack of flyers that came with your Bracebridge Examiner today, you will find a brightly coloured-envelope addressed to the Manna Food Bank. This is the Manna Food Bank’s Annual Easter Campaign, an important part of Manna’s fundraising for more than 20 years now.

Once a year Bracebridge residents receive these envelopes with their Bracebridge Examiner. Many who wish to help support the Food Bank tuck in a cheque. Some do it immediately, while others hang onto the envelope and wait until later in the year to send it in. Last year the envelope campaign raised just under $5,300 for Manna. Those who are more digitally inclined can always make a donation online through PayPal or Canada Helps from Manna’s website. Anyone who donates more than $20 receives a charitable tax receipt.

While Manna is in the fortunate position of receiving a significant amount of support in the form of food donations throughout the year, more than 80% of the food that Manna distributes to its clients has to be purchased such as daily food staples and baby formula and foods.

In operation since 1989, the Manna Food Bank is a volunteer-run charitable organization that provides an emergency three-day supply of food to those who need it.

In 2015, Manna provided groceries to about 200 families per month, or a total of 6,109 people, including 2,134 children. That is down about 5% from 2014.

More than a third of Manna’s clients are the working poor. Some require only two or three visits to get back on their feet while others require ongoing assistance. We ask that clients not come to the food bank more than once a month, but that being said, Manna
will never turn away a hungry person.

Located at 345 Ecclestone Drive, Manna is open Tuesdays and Fridays from 1-4pm. We’re also on Facebook.

Thank you in advance for your kind generosity.
