Manna salutes Investors Group
Manna recently received several cheques–one of them for $500–plus a car full of food, thanks to Investors Group, which hosted an evening of laughter for its clients and guests.
The event took place on September 14 at the Algonquin Theatre in Huntsville.
Proceeds went to Manna and The Table Soup Kitchen Foundation in Huntsville.
“Thanks so much for thinking of Manna,” said president Carolyn Horn. “Events like these help us out a lot.”
Star-studded think-piece Tree of Life
Bracebridge, September 16, 2011 – Brad Pitt and Sean Penn will be gracing the big screen in Bracebridge, as Spinning Reels presents Tree of Life, at the Norwood Theatre in Bracebridge for one night only, on Monday September 26.
Tree of Life is a visual poem whose themes are as super-sized as the thesps that bring them to life. A family is devastated by the loss of one of its sons. The fragmented, non-linear narrative oscillates between the boys’ suburban 1950s Texas upbringing with their overbearing
father and uplifting mother (Pitt and Jessica Chastain), a contemporary urban landscape in which the eldest son (Penn) struggles with the scars of youth, and a series of transcendent images from the prehistoric to the cosmic, giving metaphoric scope to their journey.
This screening is sponsored by Sherry Rondeau of Royal LePage Muskoka.
Spinning Reels is a Bracebridge-based non-profit organization affiliated with the Film Circuit, a division of The Toronto International Film Festival dedicated to bringing alternative films to smaller communities across Canada and around the world.
Spinning Reels tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the door, in advance at Muskoka Natural Food Market, or can be reserved at tickets@spinningreels.ca. Or check online for www.spinningreels.ca.
