Muskoka Oldtimers Fall Food Drive for Manna
Community pulls together to put food on the table for neighbours
Bracebridge, September 21, 2015 — It’s that time of year again! The Muskoka Oldtimers Hockey Club is getting ready for its Fall Food Drive for Manna, taking place on Tuesday October 6th.
They are asking Bracebridge residents to collect non-perishable food items you’d like to donate to your neighbours who need help putting groceries on the table. Items like canned fruit, vegetables and fish, dried pasta and sauce, peanut butter, breakfast cereal, crackers, flour and sugar are always in high demand. Set them out in bags on your front porch by 5:30 pm and they will be picked up that evening, as dozens of volunteers go door-to-door throughout the town from about 6pm to 9pm.
“It’s a great experience every year to see the community come together and put in a big effort to help those in need in our community,” says Rob Fraser, who is spearheading the drive for the Oldtimers.
This is the most important fundraiser of the year for the Manna Food Bank, so please give generously. Manna also gratefeully accepts monetary donations.
The goal this year is to match previous years by collecting in excess of 12,000 lbs of food and $2,000 in cash and cheques.
Please call 705-646-0114 or email info@mannafoodbank.ca for more information, or to volunteer. They cover most of the town, but some streets do get missed, so give us a call if you are missed that evening.
A big thank you to 100+ volunteers who make this event happen, and to all of those who can spare a bit for Manna.
