October 15, 2018 — As you have probably heard, the Muskoka Oldtimers Hockey League Fall Food Drive in support of Manna Food Bank was a great success again this year.

For over two decades on the first Tuesday of October the Oldtimers have organized the collection of food placed on porches throughout the town. On that day again this year the residents of Bracebridge responded exceedingly generously with donations of food and dollars.

Enough food was collected to stock our shelves and storage units as we prepare for what is a very busy time of year at the food bank. Since hunger is not seasonal the financial donations received allow us to replenish our food supplies as needed during the winter months and beyond.

In addition to the Oldtimers, many, many volunteers —  youth groups, sports teams, individuals and families — recognize the need and step forward to unload, sort and pack boxes of food at the Bracebridge Fairgrounds. The next morning the community work crew of Beaver Creek Correctional Facility transports the hundreds of boxes to the food bank.

Manna supports about 500 families in our community who are experiencing difficulties putting food on their tables and need a helping hand. Manna is funded entirely through donations and is operated solely by our dedicated, hard-working volunteers.

Without the support of our generous and caring community we would not be able to provide for those who require our assistance. It does take a village.

A sincere thank you to all who participated.
