We operate under a strict code of respect, confidentiality, and care for every individual who visits us.
Dignity
No person loses social worth by becoming a client of a food bank. All persons requesting assistance will be treated with dignity and in a non-judgmental manner.
Privacy
A person's lifestyle is a private concern and is not a matter for comment or condemnation.
Confidentiality
All information regarding persons requesting assistance is held in the strictest confidence and is not discussed among the food bank volunteers or with outsiders.
Support
All persons requiring assistance will be given an appropriate food supply.
Our History
How It Began
Manna originally began as a direct response to requests made to local clergy in Bracebridge for 'just a few groceries' from families needing emergency food.
August 1989
Father Terry Bennett of St Thomas' Anglican Church called a meeting of community representatives, forming our first steering committee.
October 1989
Manna officially opened its doors in Browning Hall as a completely independent entity designed to serve the whole community.
Muskoka-Wide Support & Regional Need
While the initial response was slow, the client list grew alongside steady donations of food and funds from local churches, civic groups, organizations, and individuals. Manna quickly became a regional support system, serving clients coming from Gravenhurst, Huntsville, and across Muskoka.
